How difficult is it to learn to dance?
It’s actually easy to learn to dance! It will take time to learn the various dances and a repertoire of steps, however the learning is easy and fun. A steady approach with periodic practice will produce visible results in a short period of time.
Can I learn to dance?
Dancing is a form of walking. It’s done to the beat and rhythm of music and coordinated with a partner to produce a pleasing and graceful appearance. ‘Walking’ to a beat and ‘coordinating’ with your partner are things that are easily learned. Anyone who is able to walk can dance. If you are able to identify the beat in music.... you’re half way there already!
What if I'm self-conscious on the dance floor
while I’m learning?
Everyone starts from the beginning. The students and instructors at Daza Dance are very helpful. Our students are constantly telling us how many people compliment their dancing when out at a function. The studio is a safe and supportive environment in which you can learn dance. Students enjoy the learning experience and are amazed at how quickly they become proficient. There is no reason to feel self-conscious.
Do I need a partner?
No, it is not necessary to come with a partner. We have many students who come to our studio without a partner. Our group classes are balanced with both leaders and followers and we have an ample number of male and female instructors for private lessons.
I saw ballroom dancing on PBS ... can I learn to dance like that?
The competition you see on PBS is the OHIO STAR BALL Professional Division, which is held every November in Columbus, Ohio. The competition is the Final Round of the International Smooth and Latin Divisions. We teach these styles at Daza, as well as several others and some of our students do compete in various dance competitions. You CAN learn to dance like the pros if you choose. The level of dance on TV is very advanced and requires years of work and many hours of practice. The pros you see on TV probably practice 4 hours a day, 6 days a week! Whether you want to become a professional, or dance in an amateur division, we are here to help you achieve those goals.
How many times do I have to take lessons each week?
This is entirely up to you. Some students come in once a week while others come in several times a week. We’ll develop a schedule to fit your dance goals.
Will I have a good teacher?
Yes! We have highly qualified instructors on staff, all of whom have advanced training in ballroom dance. Several of our instructors are championship competitors on a professional level. We also bring to the studio nationally recognized ballroom dance champions and judges on a periodic basis to provide additional opportunity for the students.
What benefit will I receive from dancing?
Students have told us that, besides learning to dance, they gain self-confidence, heightened self-esteem, improved posture, improved health, friendships, a place to socialize, and other benefits. Each person derives different, but similar, benefits from dancing. The studio has a staff of trained instructors, and a terrific student body. Nationally recognized coaches also teach, on average, once every eight weeks. We make the learning experience fun, friendly, and easy. We will help you become a social, hobbyist, or competitive dancer! |

What will the lessons be like?
It seems that most people have many unanswered questions or impressions over what it’s all about, so let me explain...
There are three types of lessons offered at the Studio:
- Group Lessons are given by an instructor to a group of four or more students. The focus of the instructor is to teach the group two to four steps per session in a particular dance style. The lesson is oriented to working on your own, under the watchful eye of the instructor, to learn the steps. Pairing with another student is done throughout the lesson to provide insight as to how the step is danced with a partner. The instructor will also periodically dance with a student individually to show the class the step or to clarify the movement. Group lessons are the most inexpensive way to acquire basic dance information and to learn step patterns.
- Semi-Private Lessons are given by an instructor to a couple who are learning to dance together. The instructor works with the couple exclusively for the duration of the lesson. The instructor will periodically dance with either member of the couple to identify a problem or to clarify a movement. Semi-private lessons are a great way to obtain advanced input specific to your needs. They work well in connection with group lessons. You will have the same instructor for each semi-private lesson.
- Private Lessons are, as the name implies, one-on-one training with an instructor. You will dance with the instructor during the lesson. You will also be asked to demonstrate your steps on your own. Private lessons provide high quality training and enable the student to enjoy the fastest learning curve. You will dance with the same instructor(s) on each lesson and your development will be under his/her guidance. The supervisor will periodically coach portions of the lesson with you and your instructor to monitor your progress and provide additional guidance.
What type of dances can I learn?
Daza Dance teaches all of the Ballroom dances: Foxtrot, Waltz, Tango, Rumba, Cha Cha, Swing, Samba, Mambo etc in both the American Style and International Styles. We also teach nightclub dances such as Salsa, Hustle, Two-Step, and even Argentine Tango. Basically, we’ll teach any partnership dance
Each instructor will discuss your individual goals with you before beginning lessons. If you’re uncertain as to your goals, you can begin taking lessons in the most popular dances. They include Foxtrot, Swing, Waltz, Cha Cha, Salsa, Rumba and if you like, the Hustle. These dances will enable you to dance to most of today’s music. Additional lessons may be added as you become comfortable and more interested in various styles of dance.
See our dances page for more information on dances offered.
How often and where should I practice?
You can use Daza’s floor at no charge as long as there is room, but the most important thing you can do is to practice as soon as you get home from a lesson for 5 to 10 minutes in the kitchen. This will help reinforce the steps that you have just learned. Students who take the time to practice just a few minutes each day learn the fastest!
In addition, we have weekly studio practice parties where the instructors are present to help. It’s a fun way to practice in a safe environment.
What should I wear?
Students should wear something comfortable that allows you room to move; nothing restrictive. As far as footwear, students should wear a leather bottom shoe.
How do I get started?
Actually, the hardest step in learning to dance is the initial decision to start lessons. Call us at 678.910.9693 with any questions, or just come in and see our studio. We are open 10 am to 10pm Monday through Saturday, 11am to 6pm on Sunday. Call now to make an appointment for your first lesson and let the fun begin! |
